On the latest episode of his My World podcast, recorded live, Jeff Jarrett — who works for AEW — praised several of the company’s performers coming out of Redemption and pushed back on a listener’s complaint that Tony Khan’s matches are random and story-light. You can check out his comments below:
On Andrade winning the AEW National Championship in his resurgent run:
“You can see him jumping ship back and forth the last couple of years, and now he hit his groove. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint, or better said, this opportunity, is just needing some new air, a new space to do things. We’ve talked about different talent who at some point go to Mexico or Japan or find themselves on the independent scene — Drew McIntyre on the indies, or AJ, kind of his journey. Andrade coming back in, I think internally he felt he had something to prove, and there’s nothing like self-motivation. The hard part really starts now for him, because he’s a champion.”
On Willow Nightingale earning a title shot against Mercedes Moné:
“Willow, like Thekla, she’s 24/7, 365. Always has a game face on, always ready. But I think Willow brought that emotion. When Willow really wants to buckle down and go, man, her and Mercedes are teed up. They’re going to push each other. Willow’s very, very good, and you’ve seen her develop over the last 24, 36 months. She’s a star. It’s that simple. She’s a star.”
Responding to a fan who said AEW’s matches are random and its characters unclear, Jarrett made the case that the stories are there for those who look:
“I’ve said this since the day we launched My World Live: creative is subjective. In your opinion, you don’t think there are stories — you’re saying they’re random matches. To other folks, there’s a lot of story, and the matches do mean something. If it’s not your cup of tea, I completely understand. But earlier today, when we talked about Redemption, the stories were there — the Bucks and Cage and Copeland, Ospreay and Omega. I could go on and on. I can assure you, you dig into AEW, you’ll get all the story you want.”
