On the latest episode of Something to Wrestle, a listener asked JBL which of Owen Hart or Brian Pillman would have had the greater career had they lived. He answered carefully. You can check out his comments below:
On framing the question:
“I want to clarify this. What I’m saying is, one guy is great, one guy might be greater. You’re not saying one guy sucks by saying one guy could be better. You’re saying one guy might be greater, because I think both would be great. They may both be in the Hall of Fame — I don’t know, but they should be if they’re not. You’ve got two Hall of Fame guys, and you’re talking about extending their life, which I wish we could have, because they’re both wonderful human beings.”
On Pillman:
“This is tough. Pillman had range. Pillman had real range. That crazy gimmick he was doing, that Loose Cannon that he was doing, was fantastic.”
On Owen:
“Owen Hart may have a little more range, actually. Maybe. I mean, that’s tough, because Pillman was so freaking good. Owen could do comedy obviously very, very well — maybe what he enjoyed the most. But he could also be a very serious heel. And Owen could wrestle. So could Pillman.”
On his answer:
“I’d love to see both of them. But if there’s a choice between the two, I think the one that might nose out the other one as far as being greater to great might be Owen.”
