Stephanie Vaquer won the WWE Women’s World Championship in Santiago because of where the show was, according to WrestleVotes.
Vaquer beat Liv Morgan at a live event in Chile rather than on television. Asked about the decision during a Fightful Select Q&A, WrestleVotes said WWE built to the moment deliberately.
“For Stephanie to go over where she did was simply based on location. They had the moment right there, and they didn’t want to squander that moment, so they did a good job of figuring out how to get there with Becky Lynch involved. They wanted to reward Stephanie Vaquer in her hometown. That’s the reason she is the new champion,” WrestleVotes said.
Lynch was the special guest referee and refused to count a pinfall for Morgan, giving Vaquer the opening to come back and win.
Vaquer spoke to the crowd afterwards.
“18 years ago I was up there dreaming of becoming a WWE Superstar. Dreams are not impossible. This seemed impossible, but we’re going to keep making history because Chile f—— changed,” Vaquer said.
