CM Punk said disagreements with an opponent can end up making the match better.
Speaking on Hot Ones: Extra Heat, Punk was asked about wrestlers clashing over how to approach a match and compared his own method to Marlon Brando’s use of cue cards rather than memorised lines.
“Absolutely, and I’m probably number one on everybody’s list. I’m very much in my Marlon Brando stage of being a professional wrestler where I would much rather hide from somebody before a match and not talk about it,” Punk said.
He said the friction sometimes works in the match’s favour.
“You can butt heads with an opponent. The magic of pro wrestling is that sometimes, that helps. You won’t know until you’re in the ring,” Punk said.
