Ilja Dragunov will make his AEW in-ring debut on the October 21 episode of Dynamite.
Tony Khan announced the match at the AEW WrestleDream media scrum after Dragunov was introduced as AEW’s newest signing at the show. An opponent has not been announced.
Khan said he was not sure about Dragunov’s visa status until Wednesday night, and was not sure Dragunov would be at WrestleDream until Friday night. He said Dragunov fit in AEW “like a glove.”
Dragunov said his arrival felt “very overwhelming.” Asked who he wants to face, he named Kyle Fletcher, Samoa Joe and Jon Moxley among others.
On leaving WWE, Dragunov said that if he feels he is getting stuck somewhere, he needs to breathe, and that is what he chose to do.
The match will be Dragunov’s first since April, when he competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal during WrestleMania 42 weekend.
