Buddy Matthews sustained an ankle injury during his AEW Continental Championship match against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam: Australia.

Despite the injury occurring during his entrance, he completed the match. Following the event, Matthews expressed frustration about the small ring size potentially contributing to the injury.

Evidence of the injury includes him using a crutch during his honeymoon with Rhea Ripley and later wearing a walking boot.
