Pro Wrestling Rumors (3/27/2025): AEW Shockwave Update, WWE MITB Location

The following is a list of news, notes, and rumors from the pro wrestling world:

Wrestling Rumors

The Greater Orlando Sports Commission has made a significant move to attract major TKO events, as reported by the Orlando Business Journal. They are seeking an $18 million grant from tourist development tax funds to secure bids for four high-profile events: a WWE Survivor Series or Saturday Night’s Main Event in 2026, a UFC pay-per-view in 2027, the 2028 Royal Rumble, and WrestleMania 47 in 2031. This ambitious bid underscores Orlando’s desire to become a premier destination for major combat sports and entertainment events.

Meanwhile, the date for WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view remains a topic of speculation. However, the location is LA. WrestleVotes, on Backstage Pass, indicated that the event is likely to take place during either the first or second weekend of June. This information provides a tentative timeframe for fans anticipating the event. In other wrestling news, Andrew Zarian, on Beyond the Bell, shared positive feedback from Warner Bros. Discovery regarding their partnership with AEW. Despite online discourse and rating concerns, WBD appears satisfied with the collaboration, showing a disconnect between online sentiment and the company’s internal perspective.

Sean Ross Sapp provided further insights into AEW’s operations on Fightful’s YouTube show, The Hump. Sapp clarified that the rumored AEW Shockwave show for FOX was merely a pitch and a theory, ultimately failing to materialize. Regarding WWE’s SmackDown, Sapp reported concerns within the company about the show’s quality, with many questioning the underutilization of talent given the show’s three-hour runtime. Additionally, reports from TNA’s roster, as relayed by Jon Alba of SI.com and Fightful Select, revealed shock and concern over recent firings, particularly those of Ariel Shnerner and Gail Kim. Kim’s departure was described as a “major loss,” especially for the women’s division, though Fightful Select also noted that Kim’s advocacy and occasional clashes with management may have contributed to her release.

Finally, the El Grande Americano/Chad Gable vs. Dragon Lee match on the latest Raw received widespread acclaim backstage, according to WrestleVotes on Backstage Pass. This match was reportedly met with “heavy praise,” highlighting a positive moment within WWE’s recent programming.
