Jeff Jarrett Talks Why He Didn’t Consider WWE Return In 2009

AEW

Jeff Jarrett recently shed light on why a potential return to WWE in 2009 wasn’t on his radar, despite a period of uncertainty with TNA, the company he co-founded. Speaking on his “My World” podcast, Jarrett explained that his age at the time, 42, played a significant role in his thinking. He believed that WWE, under Vince McMahon’s leadership, generally didn’t hire or prominently feature talents over the age of 40.

Jarrett acknowledged that numerous wrestlers who had previously had contentious departures from WWE eventually found their way back to the company. He speculated that had he considered a return, he might have had to “wait his time.” However, he also mused on McMahon’s potential perspective, suggesting that the WWE Chairman might have respected Jarrett’s entrepreneurial spirit in starting TNA.

Ultimately, Jarrett did return to WWE years later, in 2018, culminating in his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. He also held a backstage role before his departure in 2022. In 2009, however, with his deep involvement in TNA, a move back to WWE simply didn’t seem like a viable option in his mind, primarily due to the perceived age barrier within the company at that time. His focus remained on navigating his path with TNA during that period of transition.
