The April 12 edition of Collision saw the progression of the Owen Hart Cup tournaments, with Athena defeating Harley Cameron and Jamie Hayter overcoming Billie Starkz. Hayter’s victory sets her up for a semifinal clash against Kris Statlander. However, the results also solidified a highly anticipated showdown between Athena and Mercedes Mone. Fans have eagerly awaited this encounter since Mone’s AEW debut in March 2024, with many speculating it would occur at All In Texas. Instead, this dream match is now set to take place much sooner.
Athena’s victory intensifies the burgeoning rivalry between her and Mone, as they are now scheduled to face off on the April 16 edition of Dynamite, notably held in Mone’s hometown of Boston. The winner of this semifinal bout will advance to the finals at Double or Nothing. In a backstage AEW digital exclusive, Athena delivered a pointed warning to Mone, promising to embarrass her in front of her loved ones. “This is my year. This is my moment. First round of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, done.
Now on to the semi-final to face y’all’s CEO, Mercedes Mone. As much as you’ve been running AEW, I’ve been running Ring of Honor. Now it’s time for both of us to clash in your hometown. But here’s the spoiler alert Mercedes, I’m going to beat you. I’m going to embarrass you in front of your friends and your family. After that, I’m going to go on to win the entire Owen Hart Foundation tournament. After that, I am going to be at All In in my hometown as I beat whoever is the AEW Women’s World Champion. You made a mistake, Mercedes, and that was picking a fight with me. Because hell hath no fury like Athena’s scorn. See you in Boston, bitch.”
In the men’s Owen Hart Cup tournament on Collision, Konosuke Takeshita also advanced and is slated to face Will Ospreay on the April 16 edition of Dynamite. On the other side of the bracket, Kyle Fletcher has secured his place in the semifinals and will await the winner of the match between “Hangman” Adam Page and a currently unannounced “wild card” entrant.
