Veteran wrestling announcer Tony Schiavone, now a prominent voice in AEW, once famously worked at Starbucks during a period away from full-time wrestling broadcasting. He has openly discussed the reasons behind this career move, emphasizing it was a necessary and ultimately positive experience.
After his tenure with WCW ended in 2001, Schiavone found himself out of the wrestling business for many years. During an episode of his “What Happened When” podcast, Schiavone detailed his decision to join Starbucks. “I needed a job, quite frankly, and I needed health insurance for my family,” he candidly stated. Beyond the practical necessities, he found personal value in the role.
“It gave me a sense of purpose again. I enjoyed the interaction with people, I enjoyed being part of a team,” Schiavone explained. He didn’t view it as a step down but rather a different chapter. “People ask if I was embarrassed. Not at all. I was doing what I had to do to provide, and honestly, I learned a lot and met some great people.” His story is often cited as one of humility and resilience, highlighting that life outside the wrestling bubble involves adapting to new challenges.
