Saraya, formerly Paige in WWE, recently disclosed on her “Rulebreakers” podcast that she turned down a proposed romantic storyline during her time with All Elite Wrestling. The angle would have involved fellow AEW talent Matt Menard, also known as “Daddy Magic,” and a planned on-screen kiss.
Saraya explained her decision was rooted in personal boundaries and a career-long preference to avoid such angles, especially while in a relationship. “In AEW, there’s a wrestler called Daddy Magic and Tony [Khan], they wanted me to do a love storyline,” Saraya stated. “I’ve managed to go in my whole career without doing a love storyline, and I wasn’t going to start.”
She noted that even when AEW clarified the angle would “only” involve a kiss, her stance remained firm. “They’re like, ‘No, all he’s going to do is kiss you.’ And I had a boyfriend at the time, and I was just, ‘I can’t do it, you guys. I can’t do it,’” she recalled, adding, “If I have a boyfriend at the time and I have to kiss someone, I just don’t think that it’s appropriate.”
While praising Menard as a “good guy,” Saraya confirmed she declined the storyline. This revelation comes after she announced her departure from AEW in March 2025. She has since expressed interest in training with Natalya to resume her in-ring career and is promoting her new book, “Hell in Boots: Clawing My Way Through Nine Lives.”
