AEW star Mercedes Moné is keen on exploring intergender wrestling within the promotion, naming several male stars she’d love to team with or face. This comes as women like Willow Nightingale and Marina Shafir are set to compete in the mixed-gender Anarchy in the Arena match for the first time ever at tonight’s Double or Nothing, where Moné herself faces Jamie Hayter in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament final.
Speaking to Lauren Coates of Variety, Moné expressed her interest: “I definitely want to have an inter-gender match or a mixed tag match.” She listed numerous potential opponents and partners, stating, “I think people like [Speedball] Mike Bailey, Ricochet, Swerve [Strickland], Komander, The Beast Mortos, [Kazuchika] Okada, there’s just so many men that I would love to team up with and fight against. Dream matches are endless in AEW.”
While enthusiastic about mixed-gender competition, the Variety article noted that Moné is “not interested in ‘ultra-violent matches'” like the Anarchy in the Arena bout. AEW has featured only a few mixed tag matches in its history, including a recent Dynamite encounter where Willow Nightingale & Swerve Strickland faced Jon Moxley & Marina Shafir, potentially signaling more openness to such contests.
