Mercedes Moné has punched her ticket to a championship match at AEW All In on July 12th, after defeating Jamie Hayter in a hard-fought Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament final to open tonight’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view in Glendale, AZ. With this significant victory, Moné will now challenge for the AEW Women’s World Championship, facing the winner of tonight’s later match between current champion Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa.
The tournament final was a competitive affair, with both Moné and Hayter exchanging multiple near falls and showcasing their resilience. The decisive moment came when “Mone went for a cradle, but drove Hayter’s neck down to the mat with a DDT on impact allowing Moné to score the three count.”
Moné’s path to the final included victories over Julia Hart and Athena, while Hayter bested Billie Starkz and Kris Statlander. This year’s tournament outcome follows last year’s winner, Mariah May, who famously turned on Toni Storm after her win, leading to a title match at All In 2024 where May defeated Storm. Their storyline concluded at Revolution earlier this year when Storm regained the championship. Tonight, Storm defends that title against Shirakawa, setting the stage for Moné’s challenge in July..
