Former AEW World Champion MJF, now a member of The Hurt Syndicate, has threatened to make his presence felt at AEW’s inaugural event in Arena México, laying down a conditional challenge to CMLL legend Místico. During the June 4, 2025, “Fyter Fest” edition of AEW Dynamite, MJF verbally targeted Místico.
MJF dismissed Místico’s status as Mexico’s top star, proclaiming himself the best wrestler in the world. He called the CMLL icon a “‘big fish in a small stinky pond’”. MJF then stated that if Místico wins his match at next Wednesday’s “Summer Blockbuster” in Portland, Oregon (opponent yet to be announced), and also impresses him, then “they will do battle at this month’s Grand Slam Mexico” on June 18th.
This would mark their first-ever encounter. MJF made his CMLL debut at Arena México on August 2, 2024, successfully defending the AEW International Title against Templario. Místico has made several appearances for AEW and ROH since October 2023. AEW’s Grand Slam: Mexico is the centerpiece of a week featuring AEW & ROH talent in CMLL.
