New AEW Championship Revealed During Chaotic Segment

A new championship was unveiled on the AEW Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster special, consolidating two of the company’s titles into one. The new AEW Unified Championship will be on the line at All In: Texas on Saturday, July 12.

The reveal came during a contract signing for the “Winner Takes All” main event between AEW International Champion Kenny Omega and AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada. The winner of their match at All In will be crowned the inaugural AEW Unified Champion.

A Vicious Attack And A New Alliance

The contract signing quickly devolved into chaos when Don Callis appeared. Callis, one of Omega’s biggest rivals, ran down his former associate, providing a distraction that allowed Okada to launch a vicious assault on Omega.

Okada attacked Omega twice as he was being stretchered away, with the second attack leaving Omega coughing up blood. While no official announcement was made, the segment heavily teased a new alliance between Okada and Callis, uniting two of Kenny Omega’s greatest foes.

History Of The Unified Titles

The AEW International Championship was first established as the All-Atlantic Title in June 2022, with PAC as the inaugural champion. It was renamed in March 2023 during Orange Cassidy’s lengthy reign.

The AEW Continental Championship is a newer title, created in late 2023 as part of the Continental Classic tournament. Okada is only the second man to hold the belt, having defeated the inaugural champion, Eddie Kingston, in March 2024.
