National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) owner Billy Corgan recently commented on the company’s status following the high-profile appearance of WWE’s Natalya at the Crockett Cup event. Corgan sees the collaboration as proof that the NWA has solidified its position in the modern wrestling landscape.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Corgan said the “blessing” from WWE shows the NWA is a legitimate player, even if it is not direct competition.
“The WWE endorsement, if you even want to call it that, let’s call it a blessing, shows you that we’ve earned our spot in this game here,” Corgan said. “We’re not competition by any stretch of the imagination, but we are a player now.”
Despite the successful crossover, Corgan was quick to shut down any speculation that the company was positioning itself to be acquired by WWE or any other entity.
“The other thing I want to add really quickly is we’re not for sale,” he stated. “A lot of people assume that the minute that door opened with Nattie, that that meant we were going to be sold. We’re not for sale, and WWE has not asked.”
The NWA recently announced a new streaming deal with the Roku platform, further cementing its place as an independent promotion focused on its own growth.
