Original Plans For Adam Copeland’s AEW Return And FTR’s Heel Turn Revealed

AEW

A report from Fightful Select has detailed original creative plans for Adam Copeland in AEW. The plans involved FTR’s heel turn on Copeland leading to a reunion between Copeland and his former tag team partner, Christian Cage. The storyline was potentially set to build towards a significant match at AEW All In.

Copeland’s current absence was not intended to be this long, and there were discussions about his return at AEW Double or Nothing to start the angle. Those plans were changed because Christian Cage was still involved in a storyline with The Patriarchy, which he was committed to finishing.

The report also notes that FTR’s heel turn was first pitched to happen against The Outrunners before the direction was changed to involve Copeland. It is currently unknown if AEW will proceed with the Copeland and Cage reunion storyline.
