A grudge match that has been brewing for weeks is now official, as former AEW World Champion MJF will go one-on-one with former ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe in the main event of next week’s AEW Dynamite from Cleveland, Ohio. The match was made following the main event of this week’s show, which saw Briscoe defeat Ricochet in a hard-fought contest.
MJF Gets His Match After a Turbulent Night
It was a rollercoaster of a night for MJF. Earlier in the show, he was unceremoniously and publicly ejected from The Hurt Syndicate by Shelton Benjamin. Undeterred, he later appeared on the video screen following Mark Briscoe’s main event victory. After Briscoe once again called him out, MJF announced that he had spoken to AEW President Tony Khan and that their match was officially set for next week’s main event. His announcement was immediately followed by a sneak attack, as MJF ambushed Briscoe in the ring before the current AEW World Champion, “Hangman” Adam Page, ran down to make the save.
A Feud Boiling Over
The animosity between MJF and Mark Briscoe has been escalating for weeks. The tension began during the Casino Gauntlet match at the All In event earlier this month. Briscoe and MJF were the first two entrants in the match, which MJF ultimately won to earn a guaranteed, anytime-anywhere contract for the AEW World Championship. Since then, the two have been at odds, with Briscoe demanding a one-on-one match to settle their differences and MJF consistently ducking the challenge. The feud has become increasingly personal, with MJF resorting to vicious verbal attacks on Briscoe, even referencing his late brother, Jay Briscoe, in promos.
A First-Time Singles Encounter
Next week’s main event will mark the first time that MJF and Mark Briscoe have ever faced each other in a traditional singles match. Their only other time sharing a ring was during the chaotic Casino Gauntlet match. For Briscoe, it’s a chance to get revenge for the personal insults and disrespect he has endured from the “Salt of the Earth.” For MJF, it’s an opportunity to prove his superiority and build momentum as he now embarks on a solo run, with his world title contract looming over the entire main event scene.
The confrontation has set the stage for a highly personal and unpredictable main event on next week’s Dynamite. With MJF now officially on his own after being kicked out of The Hurt Syndicate, and Mark Briscoe looking for righteous vengeance, their first-ever singles match promises to be a must-see event.
