AEW Dynamite Card Adds TBS Title Qualifier for Forbidden Door

AEW

A major qualifying match has been added to this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, as four of the top contenders in the women’s division will collide for a coveted championship opportunity. The winner of the four-way match will go on to challenge Mercedes Moné for the AEW TBS Championship at the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

AEW Dynamite to Host High-Stakes Qualifying Match

In a social media post on Monday, AEW President Tony Khan made two major announcements regarding the TBS Championship. First, he confirmed that the champion, Mercedes Moné, will defend her title at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on Sunday, August 24, in a special four-way match. Moné will face one representative from AEW, one from the Japanese promotion Stardom, and one from the Mexican promotion CMLL. While the Stardom and CMLL participants have not yet been named, the AEW representative will be determined this Wednesday, August 6, on Dynamite. Queen Aminata, Skye Blue, Alex Windsor, and Billie Starkz will face off in a four-way match, with the winner earning the AEW spot in the championship match at Forbidden Door.

Mercedes Moné’s Return and a Stacked Dynamite Card

This Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite will also feature the return of the TBS Champion herself, Mercedes Moné. This will be her first appearance on AEW programming since the All In pay-per-view in July, where she unsuccessfully challenged “Timeless” Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship in what was her first singles defeat in the company. Fans will be eager to hear what the “CEO” has to say as she prepares for her unique, international title defense at Forbidden Door.

The show is already loaded with other major matches and segments. The final semifinal match of the AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament will take place, as The Young Bucks take on the team of “Brodido” (Brody King & Bandido). The winner will advance to the finals to face FTR. Additionally, a deeply personal grudge match is set for the show as MJF will go one-on-one with Mark Briscoe.

An International Showcase at Forbidden Door

The four-way TBS Championship match is a perfect encapsulation of the spirit of the Forbidden Door event. The show is an annual collaboration between AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, but this year it is expanding to include talent from other partner promotions like Stardom and CMLL. By having the TBS Champion defend her title against representatives from three different promotions, AEW is creating a true international showcase for its women’s division. The qualifying match this Wednesday on Dynamite will have huge implications, as one of the four talented competitors will punch their ticket to a major championship match on a global stage.

The updated card for the Wednesday, August 6 episode of AEW Dynamite:

  • MJF vs. Mark Briscoe
  • Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament Semifinals: The Young Bucks vs. Brodido (Brody King & Bandido)
  • Mercedes Moné returns
  • Forbidden Door TBS Championship Qualifying Match: Queen Aminata vs. Skye Blue vs. Alex Windsor vs. Billie Starkz
