Eddie Kingston “Disappointed” He Will Likely Miss Forbidden Door

In an emotional and honest new update, the injured AEW star Eddie Kingston has revealed that he will likely miss the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view for the second consecutive year. As he continues his long and difficult recovery from a major leg injury, the “Mad King” opened up about his deep disappointment at the prospect of missing the one show of the year that means the most to him.

Eddie Kingston Provides an Update on His Injury and Forbidden Door

Eddie Kingston has been out of action since May of 2024, when he suffered a severe leg injury. In a new training video shared by his friend and fellow wrestler, Cezar Bononi, Kingston provided an update on his recovery and his status for the big event in London, England, on August 24.

“I am disappointed that it looks like, I’m just saying it now, it looks like I’m not going to be able to do Forbidden Door again,” Kingston said. “Hopefully, this comes out and I’m wrong and I’m actually at Forbidden Door.”

His comments, while tinged with a small amount of hope, paint a realistic and disappointing picture for the beloved star, who also missed last year’s Forbidden Door event due to injury.

A Passion for Japanese Wrestling

For Eddie Kingston, missing Forbidden Door is more than just missing another pay-per-view; it is missing the one event that aligns perfectly with his own deep-seated passion for Japanese professional wrestling. Throughout his career, Kingston has been a vocal admirer of the Japanese strong style, and the Forbidden Door event, which brings together the stars of AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, is his favorite show of the year.

“My thing is, everybody else has their favorites, and my favorite was always Forbidden Door. It’s shit I like to do. That’s the shit I like. For me, Forbidden Door will always be the big one,” he explained. “The Japanese dudes are my dudes.”

He then listed a number of NJPW stars he was hoping to face, including Shingo Takagi, Yuya Uemura, Shota Umino, and Taichi. “Missing it, as of right now, missing it two years in a row sucks,” he added.

The Long Road Back

This latest update is another chapter in what has been an incredibly difficult and emotional journey for Eddie Kingston. The leg injury, which he suffered at a New Japan STRONG event, has kept him on the sidelines for over a year. In a previous video, he opened up about the immense mental health struggles he has faced during his recovery, including issues with his insurance that prevented him from getting physical therapy for a period of time, and even moments where he contemplated retiring from the sport he loves. This new update, while disappointing, also shows a great deal of progress, as he is now physically back in a ring and training for his eventual return.

Eddie Kingston’s heartfelt and honest update is another chapter in what has been an incredibly difficult year for the “Mad King.” While his disappointment about missing another Forbidden Door is clear, the fact that he is back in a ring and training is a massive positive sign for his eventual return. The passion he has for competing against the best from Japan is undeniable, and while it may not happen this year, his comments have already created a list of dream matches that fans will be clamoring to see when he is finally medically cleared to make his long-awaited return to an AEW ring.
