In an announcement made on Monday, the company revealed that it is partnering with McBride’s Don Gato Tequila brand for a special, Lucha Libre-themed event titled “Lucha de los Muertos.”
MLW Announces Major Celebrity Partnership for November Event
The special event, officially titled “MLW x Don Gato: Lucha de los Muertos,” will take place on Thursday, November 20, at the Charleston Music Hall in Charleston, South Carolina. The show will air live on MLW’s U.S. television home, beIN SPORTS, as well as on the company’s official YouTube channel, making it accessible to fans all over the world. Tickets for the event go on sale this week. The partnership with a major celebrity like Danny McBride and his tequila brand is a huge move for the independent promotion and is sure to bring a new level of mainstream attention to the MLW product.
A Star-Studded Crossover in Charleston
In the official press release for the event, both Danny McBride and MLW owner Court Bauer expressed their excitement for the partnership in their own unique, charismatic styles.
“Don Gato was reluctant to enter the ring after the injuries he sustained spear fishing in Cambodia this summer,” said Danny McBride in a humorous, in-character statement. “But through my charm and constant nagging, I was able to get him on board. You’re welcome, Charleston. I am beyond psyched that he will bring his tequila and cool times to the MLW event here in the Holy City.”
“Thanks to Danny McBride for going the extra mile — turns out Don Gato Tequila is a hell of a negotiator,” said Court Bauer. “MLW and Don Gato Tequila are the ultimate super team-up, and Charleston—with its deep roots in wrestling—is where our story in the South takes hold. We’re bringing a stacked card, a who’s who of wrestling, and the absolute best tequila in the game.”
The announced lineup for the event is indeed a “who’s who” of wrestling, featuring a diverse and impressive roster of talent from across the wrestling world. The names announced so far include the reigning MLW World Heavyweight Champion, Matt Riddle; Emmy-winning actor and wrestler, Paul Walter Hauser; former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, Shotzi Blackheart; the legendary luchador, Mistico; former WWE United States Champion, Donovan Dijak; current AEW star, Bishop Dyer; Lucha Libre legend, Blue Panther; second-generation star, Brock Anderson; and MLW mainstays, Cesar Duran and Salina de la Renta.
A New Era for Major League Wrestling?
The partnership with Danny McBride and the star-studded lineup for “Lucha de los Muertos” are the latest in a series of ambitious moves from Major League Wrestling. The company has carved out a unique niche for itself in the crowded professional wrestling landscape, presenting a gritty, realistic, and internationally-flavored product. The involvement of major names like Matt Riddle, who recently captured the promotion’s world title, and the crossover appeal of celebrities like Danny McBride and Paul Walter Hauser, are clear signs that MLW is looking to significantly expand its reach and presence in the industry. This live, internationally broadcast special from Charleston could be the beginning of a major new chapter for the promotion.
