TNA star Nic Nemeth recently shared his thoughts on the reunion of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage in All Elite Wrestling, suggesting that the storyline’s progression has been rushed to build towards the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. The highly anticipated reunion of the long-time friends and tag team partners has been a major focus on AEW television since Copeland’s return at the All In event in Texas last month. The story has seen betrayal, forgiveness, and finally, a tag team match set for the London pay-per-view.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Nemeth questioned the timing of the reunion, wondering if the creative direction was accelerated specifically for the big show.
“Forbidden Door, a little over a week away. I wonder now that we’re talking about it, is it a ‘Man, you know what would be a great moment for this Forbidden Door pay-per-view to get something going? Can we speed this up three months?’”
Nemeth also expressed his hope that there is another twist to the story, potentially a swerve from Christian Cage, because of how quickly the reconciliation occurred after months of animosity between the two.
“I really hope it’s a ruse. I’m going to stay with that because it wasn’t a full embrace, but yes, you did get the hug. You got the match made. The match is made. It’s official no matter what happens. If it’s a ding, ding, ding and it’s [like Ric] Flair turning on Sting and they all just kick the s— out of Cope, you still had the match made and the three quarters of a hug. So maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. Maybe it’s a moment of reluctance and the story continues at Forbidden Door, but it happens so quickly.”
At Forbidden Door, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage are scheduled to team up for the first time in over a decade to face Kip Sabian and Nick Wayne’s replacement, Killswitch. The event will take place on Sunday, August 24, from The O2 Arena in London, UK.
