AEW President Tony Khan has commented on the status of former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho, whose contract with the company is reportedly set to expire at the end of this year. The speculation surrounding Jericho’s future has intensified in recent weeks, with rumors of a potential return to WWE. During the media call for the ROH Death Before Dishonor event, Khan was asked about Jericho’s standing with the company.
“I would never be where I am in AEW without Chris Jericho, nor would we be in a position where I could have bought ROH. I’ve very grateful to Chris. I think the world of Chris and I would love to have Chris back. He’s been a great star for us since the very beginning of AEW and ROH as well.”
Khan made it clear that the door is always open for Jericho to return to the company, emphasizing the huge role he has played since its inception.
“If and when the time presents itself, hopefully, I would love to have Chris back. I think the world of him and Chris Jericho is always in the highest of standing with me, AEW, and ROH. He has been a great ambassador, leader, and friend to all of us. Chris Jericho is a huge part of our company here.”
Jericho has not been seen on AEW television since he lost the ROH World Championship to Bandido in April. Recent social media activity from Jericho, including liking a post that suggested a WWE return, has fueled the rumors that he may be headed back to his former company once his AEW contract is up.
