ROH Women’s World Champion Athena, who also co-founded the Texas-based promotion Metroplex Wrestling, revealed that AEW and ROH President Tony Khan has been helping her with her independent events. Athena’s promotion, which is focused on showcasing women’s wrestling, held its “Who Runs The World” event on August 9, with another show scheduled for October 25. The success of these events is crucial for providing a platform for rising talent in the industry.
During the post-ROH Death Before Dishonor media scrum, Athena was asked if fans could expect to see more AEW and ROH talent at her upcoming shows. She responded by praising Khan for his support and assistance in making that happen.
“But yes, it is going to be a very regular thing and Tony’s been very awesome with helping me with that as well so, we’re working on it. I promise I’m a little late because I was a little busy traveling the world and defending my championship and trying to win championships. But I promise you it’s a regular thing so, please stay tuned. I know by Monday, we are gonna be releasing the full talent list, and then we will start doing matches because I’m very excited to announce a few myself…”
At the Death Before Dishonor event, Athena successfully defended her ROH Women’s World Championship against Mina Shirakawa, continuing her historic reign which is now just days away from reaching the 1,000-day mark. Her work both in the ring for ROH and behind the scenes with her own promotion highlights her commitment to advancing women’s wrestling.
