A new championship match has been announced for this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, September 3, live from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. The reigning AEW TBS Champion, Mercedes Moné, will defend her championship against fellow Forbidden Door competitor, Alex Windsor. This will be the first-ever one-on-one match between the two women.
The match was made after Windsor issued a direct challenge to Moné on Saturday’s episode of AEW Collision. Following a quick victory over Ashley Vox, Windsor stated that Moné is scared of her because she knows that Windsor made her tap out during a recent tag team match. This is a reference to a recent multi-woman tag bout where the two were on opposite sides. The challenge immediately sets the stage for a high-stakes encounter between the TBS Champion and the formidable British star.
Their rivalry has been building since the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, where Windsor was part of a four-way match for the TBS Championship. While Moné retained her championship in that bout, Windsor came close to winning on several occasions. On the subsequent episode of Dynamite, Moné celebrated her victory and was dismissive of Windsor, further fueling the tension that has now culminated in this championship match for Wednesday night. The bout joins an already-announced eight-man tag team match on what is shaping up to be a loaded episode of Dynamite.
The current card for the September 3rd AEW Dynamite is below:
- TBS Championship Match: Mercedes Moné (champion) vs. Alex Windsor
- Kenny Omega, “Hangman” Adam Page & JetSpeed (“Speedball” Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight) vs. Kyle Fletcher, Josh Alexander & The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson)
