Killer Kross has addressed the fan speculation that his and Scarlett’s recent departure from WWE was a “work,” or a storyline angle. In a new interview with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, the former two-time NXT Champion made it clear that he would never participate in an angle that plays on the real-life anxieties of wrestlers losing their jobs. The couple’s WWE contracts expired on August 10 and were not renewed, leading to their status as two of the hottest free agents in the industry. The unexpected nature of their exit led many fans to hope and speculate that it was all part of a larger, elaborate storyline that would see them return to WWE television in a surprising fashion.
Kross acknowledged that many fans, and even some of his own colleagues, were hoping the situation was a storyline, but he stated that he finds the idea of such an angle to be in poor taste. He understands why fans might think it’s a work, but he wanted to set the record straight.
“There are hundreds of people who have been coming to the table, a lot of them angry because they were hoping it was a work and there would be a payoff. I would never work somebody like that. To me, it’s not in good taste. Running an angle where you lose your job and upset people is not something I would do. I understand why people thought it was going to be a work, they were hoping it was going to be a work.”
He also revealed that the situation was unclear to many within the wrestling business as it was unfolding.
“A lot of the guys didn’t know. We were like, ‘Let’s see what happens. Maybe they’ll recover the situation.’ We remained somewhat quiet about it.”
