The current ROH World Champion and new AEW World Tag Team Champion, Bandido, recently spoke with Haley Miller of VICE about his incredible run of success since returning from a long-term wrist injury. The popular luchador has been on a roll, regaining the top prize in Ring of Honor and forming a dominant and championship-winning tag team, Brodido, with Brody King in All Elite Wrestling. For Bandido, the journey back to the top has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding, culminating in a series of major victories that have re-established him as one of the premier stars in the industry.
He spoke candidly about the difficult recovery process from his wrist injury, which was more complicated than he initially expected.
“Well, well, you know, that was very hard for me. I thought… it will be like just six months. After my first surgery, they say, ‘Hey, your wrist is not good. We need to restart everything.’ So I feel very bad about it. But now I know that everything has a purpose, you know?”
He then expressed his joy at being able to capture multiple championships so soon after his comeback, particularly highlighting his successful partnership with Brody King.
“That feels unbelievable. You know, it’s amazing. It’s crazy for me and for Brody too; we are very happy. We have eight years, nine years now, we know each other. So when somebody say, ‘Hey, you’re gonna be with Brody,’ I told him, ‘Hey, this is our opportunity to show all the people how our relation is together.’ It’s crazy. It’s amazing!”
He also touched on the unique and positive fan reaction to his pairing with the powerhouse Brody King.
“That’s amazing. I’m telling all the people who ask me, the rap people, heavy people, [they] love Bandido, and all the Mexican people love Brody. It’s fantastic and I’m grateful and I just say thank you to everybody because this [is an] amazing combination and our styles — he knows some lucha styles, so it’s fabulous. He helps me a lot.”
