A change has been made to the card for tonight’s WWE x AAA Worlds Collide special event in Las Vegas. Laredo Kid has been added to the show, and will now replace La Parka in a major eight-man tag team match. The change was quietly revealed in WWE.com’s official preview for the event. The match will now see the team of Laredo Kid, Mascarita Sagrada, Octagon Jr., and Nino Hamburguesa take on the WWE contingent of Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde, Lince Dorado, and Mini Abismo Negro. The situation highlights the complex nature of using legendary lucha libre names and characters in modern wrestling.
The change was necessitated after the original graphic for the match featured an image of the original La Parka, Adolfo Tapia. The legendary luchador, who is not affiliated with AAA, was surprised to see himself advertised and took to social media to state that he would not be on the show. AAA has used other wrestlers under the La Parka mask over the years, including a third version of the character who was introduced at the Triplemania event in August. To avoid further confusion, the decision was made to replace the character in the match with the popular and acclaimed luchador, Laredo Kid. The rest of the card for the special, which streams on WWE’s YouTube channel, remains as previously announced.
