Anthony Bowens On His AEW Status: “I Get Overlooked”

AEW

AEW star Anthony Bowens recently took to social media to explain why he believes he is “overlooked” in the company. The former AEW World Tag Team Champion, who recently split from his long-time partner Max Caster and embarked on a singles run as a heel, responded to a fan who had praised his work on a recent episode of AEW Collision. In his response, Bowens stated that he feels he has not been given the chance to truly prove himself as a top-tier singles competitor because he has not yet had the opportunity to have a long, pay-per-view style match in AEW. His comments shed light on the mindset of a performer trying to break out of a successful tag team and establish a new identity as a singles star.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Bowens explained his perspective on what it takes to “earn your stripes” in the company.

“I get overlooked bc I’ve never had an opportunity to go 20-30 minutes or more with someone in AEW. That is really when you start to earn your stripes. You can’t make a determination without giving people the chance to prove you wrong. I am ELITE & THE PRIDE OF PRO WRESTLING”

The post comes after a segment on the September 13 episode of Collision where he and Max Caster had a tense, brief reunion. After they teamed up to fight off a common enemy, their former manager, Jerry Lynn, tried to raise both of their hands in victory, but the two men separated and went their own ways, indicating that their issues are far from resolved.
