WWE is set to present its inaugural WrestlePalooza Premium Live Event tonight, Saturday, September 20, a historic show that marks the beginning of a new era for the company’s broadcasts. The event will be the first to air on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service in the United States, and the card is loaded with massive, can’t-miss matches. The show is headlined by two monumental encounters: John Cena continues his farewell tour by facing the returning “Beast Incarnate,” Brock Lesnar, and AJ Lee makes her triumphant return to the ring for her first match in over a decade, teaming with her husband, CM Punk.
The event will take place at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The main card is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM Eastern time, with a special two-hour preshow starting at 5:00 PM Eastern. In the United States, the show will stream live on the new ESPN streaming service. Internationally, the event will be available on Netflix.
The main event between John Cena and Brock Lesnar is the culmination of a story that began at SummerSlam, where Lesnar made his shocking return after a two-year absence to viciously attack Cena. In the other marquee match, AJ Lee will team with CM Punk to face the husband-and-wife duo of World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch. The match was set up after Lynch interfered in the main event of Clash in Paris to help her husband, and AJ Lee returned to WWE on SmackDown to even the odds for Punk. Also on the card, Cody Rhodes will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre, and a new Women’s World Champion will be crowned when Iyo Sky faces Stephanie Vaquer.
