“Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy has made his long-awaited return to All Elite Wrestling, appearing as the mystery partner for Mark Briscoe and Hologram on the September 24 episode of AEW Dynamite. The return marks Cassidy’s first match in an AEW ring since March of this year, when he was sidelined with a torn pectoral muscle that required surgery. His comeback was met with a massive ovation from the Philadelphia crowd, who had been eagerly anticipating the return of one of the company’s most popular stars. The return comes at a crucial time for AEW, as several other top talents are currently out of action due to injuries, and Cassidy’s presence provides a significant boost to the roster.
The surprise occurred during a six-man tag team match pitting Briscoe and Hologram against the AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, and Hechicero of The Don Callis Family. The segment began with Don Callis unveiling a new portrait for the evening, but as he was boasting, Orange Cassidy emerged from within the frame to a huge pop from the crowd. Cassidy’s team went on to win the match after Hologram hit a portal bomb on Hechicero for the pinfall victory.
Following the match, TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher, a member of The Don Callis Family, came out and issued a challenge to Hologram for next Wednesday’s Dynamite. The challenge is for a “title vs. streak” match, which Hologram accepted. While Cassidy did not have a specific angle or future direction laid out for him on this episode, his return to action is official, and he is expected to be a major part of AEW programming moving forward.
