AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné is set to return to Arena Mexico to defend one of her many international championships. It was confirmed on this week’s episode of CMLL’s “Informa” talk show that “The CEO” will defend her CMLL Women’s World Championship against the formidable luchadora, Persephone. The major championship match is scheduled to take place at the company’s weekly “Viernes Espectacular” event on Friday, October 17. This will be a significant homecoming for Moné, who has made it her mission to collect championships from all over the world, and her return to the historic home of lucha libre as a defending champion is a major attraction for the Mexican fans.
Moné captured the prestigious CMLL Women’s World Championship from Zeuxis earlier this year at the AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam Mexico special. Her victory was a historic moment, as it added one of the most respected titles in women’s wrestling to her ever-growing collection. Her challenger, Persephone, is one of the top rising stars in CMLL and recently represented the promotion in the four-way match for Moné’s TBS Championship at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view. The upcoming one-on-one encounter will be a chance for Persephone to avenge that loss and bring the CMLL championship back home, while for Moné, it is another opportunity to solidify her legacy as a truly global champion.
