TNA star Nic Nemeth has shared his thoughts on the shocking return of Andrade El Idolo to All Elite Wrestling, stating that Andrade’s immediate placement in a feud with Kenny Omega is a strong statement from the company about their plans for him. Andrade made his surprise return on the sixth anniversary episode of AEW Dynamite, attacking Omega and aligning himself with the Don Callis Family. The move was a major one, as Andrade had only been released from his WWE contract a few weeks prior, and his re-emergence in AEW immediately positioned him as a main event player. Nemeth’s analysis reflects the sentiment of many fans and wrestlers who see the Omega feud as a clear sign of big things to come for “El Idolo.”
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Nemeth acknowledged the potential for a wrestler to get lost in a large faction like the Don Callis Family, but he believes that the choice of Andrade’s first target is a clear indicator of his status.
“[The Don Callis Family] is a big-ass group, so it’s easy to get lost. It’s like an nWo when you saw that picture on the stage. But if you can get one or two or three people in serious positions — and by the way, Andrade didn’t just do the lights on, lights off, he did lights on, lights off during Kenny Omega and beat his ass. That could say right away, if you’re not sure where we’re going booking wise, it might be going right to Kenny Omega, our guy on the show here.”
He emphasized that a program with a star of Kenny Omega’s caliber is a significant vote of confidence from the company.
“That goes to show that either he’s ready to go and we’re going for it this time, or at least on that opening initial feud coming back, ‘Hey, it’s you and Kenny and we’ll see what happens.’ That’s a really big deal. That’s saying, ‘Hey, we’re going somewhere with this guy.”
