A new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicates that the recently released Santos Escobar is expected to sign with All Elite Wrestling. The former WWE Cruiserweight Champion recently became a free agent after his WWE profile was moved to the alumni section of the company’s website. His departure has been a topic of discussion among fans, as he was a prominent and highly respected performer, particularly during his time in NXT as the leader of the Legado Del Fantasma faction. The new report suggests that his next destination is likely already known within the industry.
According to Meltzer’s report, the move is one that has been anticipated within WWE for some time.
“They’ve [WWE] been expecting him to leave for some time. They obviously took him away from Angel and Berto for that very reason, not expecting him to stay, and yeah, he’s gone. I do know people there — it’s multiple people there — expect him to go to AEW. I don’t know if he does or doesn’t.”
As of now, AEW has not officially announced any interest in signing Escobar. Following his WWE exit, Escobar posted a simple message on his social media, writing, “PALANTE!!!” which translates to “forward.” His extensive and successful pre-WWE career as El Hijo del Fantasma and King Cuerno in promotions like AAA, CMLL, and Lucha Underground makes him one of the most valuable free agents on the market.
