AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander recently opened up about the day she won her monumental championship at the All Out pay-per-view, revealing that she felt an unexpected sense of calm despite the high stakes. The victory was a deeply emotional one for Statlander, who has had an “up-and-down journey” in All Elite Wrestling, marked by incredible highs and devastating, long-term injuries that derailed previous championship opportunities. Her triumphant win in Toronto was the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance, and it has provided her with a profound sense of peace and validation.
Speaking to Renee Paquette on “Up Close,” Statlander discussed her mindset on the day of her title win.
“I mean, I was weirdly very calm that day. I don’t know why. I feel like maybe it’s because I knew that I was, it’s been four years since the last title match that I had and, or the Women’s World Championship title match that I had. I think I knew in myself that I had been preparing for this moment for so long that I, before I even stepped out there, I knew what I was ready to accomplish. I knew that it was my turn to, take the throne, and I just felt so at peace knowing that I felt like I finally had reached my turn.”
She also reflected on how her past injuries and setbacks ultimately strengthened her.
“I had saw some quote that was actually about me finally winning and they had said something like, I had proven that what’s delayed is not always denied, and I was like that really is very true because I always knew that like, just because of my injuries, just because of things happening the way they did. Like I knew that that never meant that I wasn’t supposed to be where I am now. It just, I, and I’ve always been an advocate for saying that, like, I don’t think I would have been the wrestler that I am today had I not gone through those injuries. So I truly just feel like almost at peace knowing that this is where I’ve been the whole- where I was supposed to be the whole time.”
