A massive champion vs. champion match has been proposed for AEW’s next pay-per-view, Full Gear, as TBS Champion Mercedes MonĂ© has issued a challenge to the new AEW Women’s World Champion, Kris Statlander. The challenge was made in a backstage promo at the conclusion of the chaotic WrestleDream event, following a night where the two champions repeatedly crossed paths. The potential main event encounter would pit two of the most dominant women in AEW against each other in a high-stakes battle for the company’s top prize. Statlander has not yet officially answered the challenge as of this writing.
The feud between the two champions exploded at WrestleDream on Saturday night. Following Statlander’s successful title defense against “Timeless” Toni Storm, MonĂ©, who had just become the longest-reigning TBS Champion in history, interrupted her celebration and told her to get out of her ring. Later in the night, MonĂ© held an open challenge that became a title-for-title match against ROH Women’s Television Champion Mina Shirakawa. After MonĂ© won the match to capture her record-setting 11th concurrent championship, Statlander returned the favor, storming the ring to cut off MonĂ©’s celebration and laying her out with a vicious attack.
If made official, the match at Full Gear would be the third singles encounter between the two stars. MonĂ© holds two previous victories over Statlander, both of which were in TBS Championship defenses at Full Gear 2024 and Worlds End 2024. This would also be MonĂ©’s second attempt to capture the AEW Women’s World Championship, after she unsuccessfully challenged Toni Storm for the title at All In Texas this past July. Full Gear is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, in Newark, New Jersey.
