A new report from Fightful Select’s weekly Q&A has provided a sobering update on the status of injured AEW star Adam Cole. According to Sean Ross Sapp, Cole is “nowhere near ready to return to the ring” as he continues to recover from a concussion he suffered on the July 10 edition of AEW Collision. The report also notes that, without going into specific detail, Cole was aware that he would likely “face issues dealing with his latest concussion,” a significant concern given his history with serious head injuries that previously kept him out of action for nine months.
The report also provided some insight into his current role within the company. It was noted that AEW President Tony Khan is “fiercely loyal” to the former TNT Champion, indicating his job is secure while he recovers. However, it is “unlikely” that Cole is currently working backstage as a coach or in a similar capacity, as sources believe that the travel required for such a role would hinder his recovery process. The concussion reportedly occurred during a tag team match when Cole took a lariat from Kyle Fletcher of the Don Callis Family.
While he is unable to be in an AEW ring, Cole has been able to do some work from home. He recently did voice work for the newly released video game Curiosity, which is now available on Steam and Steam Deck. Cole’s stable, The Undisputed Kingdom, has been absent from television since his injury, with his “Paragon” teammates Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong also currently involved in other storylines.
