Eddie Kingston Opens Up About His Mental State Following 2024 Leg Injury

AEW star Eddie Kingston recently opened up about the difficult mental journey he endured after suffering a major leg injury in May 2024. “The Mad King” was sidelined for over a year after suffering a torn ACL and meniscus during a brutal No Rope Last Man Standing Match against Gabe Kidd at an NJPW Strong Resurgence event. The injury came at a high point in his career and forced him onto the shelf for an extended period. Kingston, who has been very open about his struggles with mental health in the past, provided an honest look at his mindset in the moments and months after the injury occurred.

During a recent appearance on AEW’s “Close Up” with Renee Paquette, Kingston was asked how he processed the news that he would be out of action for such a long time.

“It kicked in the moment it happened. It kicked in the moment they said it’s broken. It kicked in the moment the doctor goes, ‘You knew something was wrong?’ And I said, ‘Yeah!’ He goes, ‘You popped your ACL and your MCL.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, okay.’ I just took it for what it was,” he said.

Kingston’s stoic acceptance of the diagnosis reflects the hard-nosed persona that has made him a massive fan favorite in AEW. After a grueling 16-month recovery, he made his triumphant return to the ring at the All Out pay-per-view on September 20, 2025, where he defeated Big Bill. Since his return, he has formed a new alliance with fellow New Yorker HOOK, and the two are set to be a major force in the AEW tag team division.
