AEW star Mark Briscoe has revealed the hilarious and random origin story of his popular and eclectic faction, “The Conglomeration.” The group, which includes Briscoe, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong, has become a fan-favorite stable, known for their unique blend of personalities and their shared “go out and have fun” attitude. In a new interview on the “AEW Unrestricted” podcast, the Ring of Honor legend detailed how the group came together and the simple “word of the day” that gave them their official name.
Briscoe explained that the name came from a pre-taped promo for an “All-Star” tag team match that he and his future partners were involved in.
“It was myself, Kyle O’Reilly and Orange Cassidy in a six-man tag…facing off with Roderick Strong, Koneshke Takeshita & Kyle O’Reilly. [Editor’s Note: The participants were likely different, as O’Reilly is listed on both teams]…the four of us, we kind of promoed together and I said this is the word of the day…look at all of the individuals we have lined up with us, this is one hell of a conglomeration of individuals…It ended up being a pre-tape and I don’t know if it was too long or something but we did another one. I didn’t say that line again, and my good friend Will (Washington) says ‘I really liked the word of the day being conglomeration’, so we did it again and the rest was history.”
He also laid out the two simple rules for being a member of the group.
“Two rules: Can’t be a-pardon my French-how you spell it, s-h-i-t, well, shithead, can’t be one of them…and you gotta be willing to conglomerate. Two rules. We’re just buddies, we like to have fun, not stress out about too much, but we can all get down at the highest of the-totem pole. We can all get down in the ring and that’s what all brings us together.”
Briscoe saved his highest praise for the recently returned Orange Cassidy, whom he considers the group’s “Godfather.”
“Oh man, I mean-I call him the Godfather of the Conglomeration. It’s like without him I believe there could be no Conglomeration. Just having him back, you know, he’s the coolest dude there is, obviously! He is one of one, there is no other Orange Cassidy, you know, often imitated but never, ever duplicated. He’s one of a kind, an amazing dude, an amazing wrestler, it’s great to have him back.”
