AEW star Darby Allin has built a career on his relentless drive and a seemingly superhuman tolerance for pain, and in a recent interview, he revealed the extreme lengths he went to in order to build that work ethic. The former TNT Champion, who famously climbed Mount Everest earlier this year, has long been known for his unique and intense approach to life, both in and out of the ring.
Speaking with RJ City on a recent episode of “Hey! (EW),” Allin discussed a period of his life where he was “intentionally homeless” for three years and lived out of his car. He explained that this was a deliberate choice to force himself to stay active and avoid complacency.
“Honestly, it’s just creating a really good work ethic because a lot of people, they just sit around and s—, watch cat compilation videos, and play video games and s—. Listen. The thing is it’s like when you’re homeless in your car living in Georgia in the middle of the summer, you have to wake up early and go to bed early. It creates a good work ethic and schedule and you have to be always on the move. You don’t have the luxury of sitting on your ass all f—ing day.”
Allin took his philosophy on hard work and his hatred of complacency so far that he refuses to even own a couch.
“I didn’t even want a couch at my house. It just represents laziness, and I hate laziness.”
This “all-or-nothing” mentality was on full display in his recent feud with Jon Moxley, which culminated in Allin winning a brutal “I Quit” match at the WrestleDream pay-per-view.
