AEW’s Newest Super-Team Has Their First Match Set

AEW

The inaugural AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship tournament is officially underway, and the first team has advanced. On the “Fright Night” edition of AEW Dynamite (October 29), the Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart & Skye Blue) defeated the team of Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata to move on to the semi-finals.

The victory came after outside interference from Thekla, a fellow member of the Triangle of Madness faction. Thekla attacked Hayter on the outside, allowing Blue to pin Aminata inside the ring. Hart and Blue will now await the winners of the other first-round match on their side of the bracket.

That match was also made official last night and is set for the November 5 episode of Dynamite: the new “super-team” of Mercedes Moné & Athena will take on Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron. The match was booked after Nightingale and Cameron ran out to save AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander from a post-match beatdown at the hands of Moné and Athena.

An injury has also forced a change to the tournament bracket. It was announced that Penelope Ford has withdrawn due to a UCL injury in her right arm. Marina Shafir will now step in to take her place, teaming with Megan Bayne against the team of TayJay (Anna Jay & Tay Melo) in their first-round match.

    • Mercedes Moné & Athena vs. Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron (Airs Nov. 5)
  • Right Side:
