A main event for AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view is set, as “Hangman” Adam Page will defend his AEW World Championship against his bitter rival, Samoa Joe, in a WrestleDream rematch. Joe earned the right to challenge for the title by winning a four-way number one contender’s eliminator match during the October 29 “Fright Night” episode of AEW Dynamite.
The eliminator match also featured Hook, Bobby Lashley, and Ricochet. The finish saw Joe lock Hook in the Coquina Clutch, forcing him to tap out just as Lashley, who had been brawling with Ricochet, was attempting to get back in the ring to break up the submission.
This title match is the direct result of the events at WrestleDream on October 18. At that show, Page successfully defended the title against Joe. After the match, Joe and his fellow Opps members (Powerhouse Hobbs & Katsuyori Shibata) feigned respect before brutally attacking the champion, cementing a heel turn.
After Joe’s victory on Dynamite, he was presented with the Full Gear contract in the ring. As he and The Opps celebrated, “Hangman” Page, who was disguised in the ring as commentator Tony Schiavone wearing a Phantom of the Opera mask, revealed himself. Page attacked The Opps with a beer bottle, getting a measure of revenge and escalating their feud ahead of the November 22 pay-per-view.
Current AEW Full Gear Card:
