Despite rampant speculation that WWE might be looking to bring Andrade El Idolo back into the fold, a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests there are no active talks to re-sign the star. The situation surrounding Andrade has been a chaotic one, as he was released from WWE on September 13, 2025, only to appear on AEW programming on October 1. However, he was immediately pulled from AEW television after WWE sent a cease-and-desist, citing a one-year non-compete clause from his “with cause” firing. This led to a rumor that WWE was using the non-compete as leverage to negotiate his return, but the latest report refutes that.
According to Dave Meltzer, sources within WWE have firmly denied that any discussions about Andrade’s return are taking place.
“For what this is worth, according to those in WWE, the rumors from last week that WWE is looking to now bring him back aren’t true. One person near the top who would likely know (although there are lots of secrets) said that he had never heard the name discussed. Another who would have to know said the story wasn’t true. Keep in mind WWE is known for keeping some things that are big secret, but I don’t know if Andrade coming back qualifies in the category of the Rollins fake injury or the Lesnar return or the Cena heel turn or the Punk return.”
While WWE has a history of keeping major comebacks a secret, the report indicates that Andrade’s situation is not being treated as a top-level surprise. This leaves the former champion in a state of professional limbo, unable to work in the United States due to the non-compete clause.
