Ridge Holland (Luke Menzies) recently opened up about the financial struggles and creative frustrations that led to his public social media posts and subsequent firing from WWE.
In an interview with Cultaholic, Holland revealed that when his contract was up for renewal in 2024, WWE offered him a three-year deal at a 50% pay cut. When he asked why, he was told the company “didn’t see the value” in him. He countered with a one-year extension to “bet on himself”.
Holland explained that the massive pay cut, combined with the higher premiums he pays for health insurance and his mortgage as a non-resident, forced him to drain his savings. After receiving a foreclosure notification on his house while recovering from his TNA-related injury, he “needed to vent” on Twitter.
“I shouldn’t have done it,” Holland said. “I shouldn’t have let my emotions get to me… Maybe two hours [later]…It was just, ‘We’re going to exercise our right to terminate the agreement effective immediately. Bye.’ I just asked about the medical stuff… And it was, ‘Yeah. Contact the medical team.’ And that was it. Obviously, I’m the one who put the tweet out, right, so I’ve got to take responsibility for that”.
Looking to his future, Holland said he “had such a fun time at TNA” and would “love an opportunity” there, and is also pursuing online coaching and a YouTube channel.
