Cody Rhodes Discusses “Infamous” January 6th Tweet And Political Misconceptions

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has addressed the long-standing fan perception that he is a conservative Republican, a belief fueled in part by an unfortunately timed tweet on January 6, 2021. On that day, as the U.S. Capitol was being attacked, Rhodes posted a GIF of himself to promote the Go-Big Show on TBS.

Speaking on the Bertcast, Rhodes reflected on the incident.

“I put a GIF of me in-ring, going like this [gesturing], like ‘Come on!’ And all I wrote was ‘January 6th,’ and it’s me doing that. And I couldn’t — because not enough people watch Go-Big Show. I can’t explain to them, ‘No, no! It was a show that we were doing.’”

He also spoke about how his appearance often leads people to assume his political leanings, despite his family’s background.

“It really checks the box, because there’s a group of people that is just insistent on like, ‘That guy’s clearly a Republican. He’s had a Trump hat before, he has a neck tatt. He’s from Georgia…’ Whereas my family is super-moderate, fairly lifetime liberal family. We’ve been all over the map, sure. But those people, there’s no way I’m convincing them.”
