In a violent and chaotic main event at AEW Full Gear, Samoa Joe defeated “Hangman” Adam Page inside a Steel Cage to become a two-time AEW World Champion. The match saw Joe split his head open less than two minutes in after being sent into the cage mesh.
Despite the cage structure designed to keep interference out, The Opps found a way in. Katsuyori Shibata attempted to climb the cage but was pulled down by Eddie Kingston. Later, Powerhouse Hobbs broke the chain lock to enter the ring. The turning point came when the referee was knocked down, missing a Buckshot Lariat from Page that would have secured the win. Page’s partner, HOOK, entered the ring seemingly to help the official but instead hit Page with the title belt. This shocking heel turn allowed Joe to hit the Muscle Buster for the pinfall victory.
