AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher has addressed the frequent criticism modern wrestling receives from industry veterans. Appearing on the “Inside the Ring” podcast, Fletcher argued that many legends view the business through a lens of nostalgia and fail to understand its evolution.
“I think a lot of veterans… the way I kind of view it is like, they think whatever they did was the best way it can be done. And I think a lot of people in wrestling feel like that, and it’s not true. The business is constantly evolving, constantly changing.”
Fletcher used his matches with Will Ospreay as an example, stating that audiences from the year 2000 would “lose their mind” at what they do today because the context has changed. He concluded by saying wrestling is subjective and that everyone is entitled to enjoy different styles.
