Adam Copeland Reflects On “Disappointing” WrestleMania 36 Match With Randy Orton

AEW

Adam Copeland (fka Edge) has opened up about the frustrations he felt during his second run in WWE, specifically regarding his feud with Randy Orton in 2020. Speaking on “Inside The Ropes,” the “Rated-R Superstar” admitted that the empty arena era of the pandemic severely impacted their storyline.

Copeland expressed disappointment that their WrestleMania 36 Last Man Standing match took place at the Performance Center with no fans.

“It just’s two dudes, you just hear the meat smacking, you know, and it’s just like, oh God, is this even worth it? … I really wish we could have had that Mania match in front of a crowd.”

He was also critical of the branding for their Backlash rematch, which WWE billed as “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.”

“Pretty ridiculous, you know? You call me and tell me, OK, we’re going to build the greatest wrestling match ever, only there’s no audience. Well, hey, what does that even mean?… There’s no such thing as the greatest wrestling match because it’s different for everybody.”

Copeland also touched on the infamous burial of The Nexus at SummerSlam 2010, recalling his feeling that the finish was a mistake.

“So when I heard the finish, I was like, that’s going to kill off what is already happening. That seems a shame. But at the end of the day… contrary to what everyone seems to believe, it’s up to the final boss to decide who goes over.”
