AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné has been on a dominant run since joining the company, but a new report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio refutes the fan theory that she is refusing to lose matches. This backs up a recent report from Fightful Select.
Meltzer addressed the speculation while comparing The Hurt Syndicate’s booking to past runs of Miro and Aleister Black. He noted that unlike Bobby Lashley, who has yet to be pinned and avoided the Continental Classic to protect his record, Moné “loses when the time is right.”
“I know some people jump on Mercedes, but Mercedes loses when the time is right. I’ve never heard of any problems with Mercedes losing — but you also shouldn’t be beating Mercedes often.”
Meltzer pointed to her recent losses in World Title matches against Toni Storm and Kris Statlander as evidence. He also noted that Moné was reportedly willing to lose to Athena in the Owen Hart Tournament earlier this year, though creative ultimately decided she should win.
