John Cena’s recent heel turn featured a stripped-down, stark presentation, and he credits the WWE production team for the idea.
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, Cena discussed the collaborative process behind his character shift. He noted that he prefers to lean on the experts rather than dictate every detail. When discussing his new entrance, he revealed that production suggested going as basic as possible.
“Production was like, ‘What if we just went basic?’ I’m like, ‘How basic can you go?’ ‘What if we just blacked everything out?’” Cena recounted.
Despite knowing the production team usually loves to light up the arena, they committed to the “blackout” concept to sell the new attitude. Cena emphasized that his approach is to let talented people do their jobs.
“It’s amazing because I don’t know what I miss if I’m making all the demands,” he said.
